Cardinals World Series Game 1 At A Glance

Chris Carpenter

Allen Craig did it for Torty tonight as he hit a fly ball to right field, knocking in David Freese to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers and a 1-0 lead in the World Series.

Craig’s hit came as the game was tied 2-2 thanks to a Lance Berkman single in the fourth inning to drive in Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday.

Chris Carpenter pitched six innings for the Birds on the Bat. Giving up five hits, including a two-run homer to Mike Napoli. Carp was also able to strike out 4. Fox Sports will have to remember to turn the mic near the mound down near the Cardinals ace next time he takes the mound as tonight, all of America was given a dose of what vintage Carp is like! You know… absolutely fantastic!

Salas pitched a portion of the seventh inning and Marc Rzepczynski closed out the seventh with two strikeouts, each pumping him, the crowd and the team up. Dotel pitched part of the eighth getting two out. Arthur Rhodes came in, drew his late son’s initials in the mound and pitched out of the inning, giving a fist pump in honor of his son.

Jason “Not The Closer” Motte came in and got the final three outs in masterful fashion.

This team is so much fun to watch! Looking forward to Game 2 tomorrow with Jaime Garcia taking the mound.
