Cardinals World Series Game 3 At A Glance

Albert Pujols

Albert Pujols had a message to send Saturday night in Arlington.

After having his status as a leader on the team questioned by some in the media for not being available, despite saying he waited for 20 minutes to see if he was wanted, Pujols made his statement and then some as the Cardinals defeated the Rangers 16-7.

Going 5 for 6 with six RBI is one thing. But, Albert had to go and add a little icing to the cake by become the third player in Major League Baseball history to hit three homers in one World Series game. The other two players? Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson. Yeah… just those guys!

Senor Octubre has a nice ring to it!

Despite having a message, you wouldn’t know it when he spoke to the media after Saturday’s game. It’s all about helping the Cardinals win games … Any way possible!

The win was a team effort for the Cardinals. Allen Craig did it for Torty with a homer in the first inning; Ryan Theriot was 1 for 4 with an RBI; David Freese was 2 for 4 with two RBI; Lance Berkman was 2 for 4; Matt Holliday was 1 for 5 scoring 3 runs, one of which was in thanks to a botched call by the umpire, he also had a spectacular defensive move when he rifled in a throw from left field to nail Mike Napoli; and Yadi Molina was two for three with four RBI.

Kyle Lohse had a three inning appearance  giving up five hits and three earned runs. He did strike out three but gave up two homers. TLR had to go to his bullpen early again. Fernando Salas pitched the fourth giving up four hits and three earned runs. Lance Lynn earned the win for the Cards as he pitched two and one-third of an inning. he struck out two, gave up three hits and one earned run. Octavio Dotel and Mitchell Boggs closed out the game for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are now up 2-1 in the series. Game 4 is Sunday night with Edwin Jackson taking the mound against Derek Holland. Hopefully Jackson has a good game and can go for several innings. And… lots of runs can be scored for the Cardinals again, of course!

Go Cards!
