Oh, the things you can stumble across on the Internet. Thanks, Google!
Okay, so we all know about Chris Carpenter and his grand fishing adventure with life-saver, Roy Halladay. We had heard Matt Holliday was supposed to go along (thank goodness he didn’t or, with his 2011 luck, he might have been the one bitten by the anaconda!) But it seems there are a few more gamesmen who like to get into the great outdoors. Check out this picture of Adam Wainwright and Mitchell Boggs, sneaking in a little mountain fishing before a game against the Rockies in 2009.
Adam is apparently quite the outdoorsman. If you’re interested, check out a couple pictures and blog posts written about Waino’s November hunting trip. His wife went along and, just like the boys, got herself a nice big buck! (Can’t let the boys have all the fun, right, Jenny?) I guess Adam’s elbow is healing up nicely after all, since he’s back to sharp shooting, eh?
I’m not even into the fishing and hunting scene, but after seeing a few pictures like this one, I’m pretty convinced Adam would make a seriously entertaining fishing partner.
Enjoy it now, buddy. But in, oh, let’s say 45 days, 22 hrs, 57 minutes and 10 seconds, (roughly!) I’m looking forward to enjoying your other kind of game. The one on a diamond instead of the lake, and where that apparently excellent aim of yours is used to do this. Yes, I miss that.
In case you missed the latest from Derrick Goold on Wainwright’s return, you should go read it now. It’s a good one!

Didn’t Jenny Wainwright have her baby in mid-November? She must be one tough lady to be out in a deer blind when 8 and a half months pregnant!

So all of this Sports Afield coverage on AMF, and not one word about Joe Mather today signing a minor-league contract with the Chicago Cubs.
