The Cardinals avoided getting swept by the Cubs.
Whew!
The Cards won 5-1 thanks to David Freese’s bat and Lance Lynn’s arm.
David Freese was two for four with three RBIs. Freeser hit this beautiful home run to left center in the sixth inning. See? I don’t lie! That was beautiful! And! In the eighth inning, Freese belted a double to center which allowed Carlos Beltran to score.
As for Lance Lynn. Wolf Pup is 4-0! First in the majors to get to that point. Not bad for a guy that came to Spring Training thinking he would be in the bullpen! Lynn pitched eight innings, giving up six hits but striking out seven… that’s right 7! He did give up a homer to Bryan LaHair. But, for now … I think he can be forgiven.
Also:
* Kyle McClellan pitched the ninth. He struck out one.
* Matt Carpenter broke out of his hitless streak as he singled in the third to score Daniel Descalso.
* Carlos Beltran doubled in the sixth to score Rafael Furcal. Beltran had two stolen bases in the game as well.
The Cardinals get Thursday off and kick off a series at home against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
