Finally! The Cards Avoid A Sweep

It is VERY good to have Allen Craig back! Thanks to his bat, the Cards were able to avoid a sweep by defeating the Mets 5-4.

FINALLY! A WIN!

In the fourth, Craig singled to score Matt Holliday. He took a walk in the seventh inning and scored after a throwing error by Dillon Gee. And, in the eighth inning, Torty launched his sixth homer of the season. It was a two run shot that scored Matt Holliday.

David Freese seems to be working out of his slump. He was 2 for 4 and scored a run. Rafael Furcal and Adron Chambers forced out allowing Freesey to score.

The starting pitcher and bullpen had another interesting day.

Kyle Lohse was the starter and went six innings, giving up two hits and one run … a home run to Lucas Duda. He did strike out three. Marc Rzepczynski was credited with a blown save but earned the win after an inning pitched. He gave up two hits and two earned runs due to a home run by Scott Hairston that drove in David Wright. He also struck out one. Eduardo Sanchez was able to hold the game after pitching 2/3rds of an inning, giving up two hits and one run. And then, after an inning and a third, Jason Motte earned his ninth save of the season. He struck out two with some very fast, filthy stuff!

Main thing is … the Cardinals FINALLY won!

The Cardinals will take their Happy Flight to Houston for a three-game series with the Astros. Jaime Garcia will take the mound for the Cardinals against Lucas Harrell and the ‘Stros. Game time is 7:05 p.m. CT at Minute Maid Park.

Go Cards!
