Hey Cardinals fans! How about that comeback? Or did you even see it? Did you go to bed before the ninth?
What have we told you about watching the game until it’s over?
Either way, it was an excellent comeback for the Cardinals as they defeated the Brewers 3-2. So let’s talk about it!
* Top of the ninth. John Axford was on the mound of the Brewers. Matt Carpenter walks to start off the inning. Lance Berkman and Carlos Beltran both fly out, making it two outs in the ninth.
Rafael Furcal singles to Aramis Ramierez. Due to Aramis’s bobble of the ball, Matt Carp was able to move up to second. After a coach’s trip to the mound, Skip Schumaker walks. The bases are loaded for Matt Holliday. Holliday singles to right allowing Carpenter and Furcal to score and tie up the ball game 2-2. Holliday. He’s clutch!
Next up, Allen Craig. The Wrench drove a soft fly to left which allowed Skip Schumaker to score. Can I just tell you, Allen Craig is clutch too! Boom!
Another interesting note? The Cardinals were down to the their final strike three times during this inning. This team does not give up. At all.
* Lance Lynn. It really was too bad Lance got the no decision for this game. He gave up six hits, including a home run in the bottom of the 7th to Corey Hart. Lynn was able to strike out 10 batters. Including Ryan Braun … twice. It was lovely. Oh … hey! Speaking of Ryan Braun! Take a look at this, will you? It never gets old!
* Bottom of the ninth. Jason Motte came into the game with one out in the eighth inning. He was able to get Carlos Gomez out. But a double from Ryan Braun allowed Norichika Aoki to score making the game 0-2 Brewers. Motte remained in the game after the Cardinals mounted their comeback in the top of the ninth. With a lead in hand, Motte seemingly transformed himself back into the pitcher we know and love!
Corey Hart? Struck out swinging.
Rickie Weeks? Struck out swinging.
Martin Maldonado? Grounded out to Matt Carpenter, who rifled the ball to Allen Craig to get the out and secure a victory for the Cardinals.
With the win, Motte is now 4-3 on the season. Axford is now 2-6 with the loss.
A nice way to gain some momentum after getting swept in Cincinnati by the Reds.
Joe Kelly will take the mound for the Cardinals tonight against Randy Wolf. Game time is 7:10 p.m. Central. Let’s Go Cards!
