Words you never think you’ll hear from Yadier Molina and believe?
“I’m fast.”
But that is what Yadi said to Jim “The Cat” Hays Friday night during his post-game “Star of the Game” interview.
Believe it! Yadi can be fast. With his arm and with his feet.
He stole two bases, bringing his total up to 10 for the season. Oh, and in the 6th inning, when Yadi stole third? Martin Maldanado committed quite the throwing error which allowed Yadi to jog safely home. And om the 8th inning, when Yadi stole second? Martin Maldanado had another throwing error, allowing Yadi to coast over to third.
See? Yadi’s fast!
Yadi threw out a scampering Randy Wolf with some assistance from Rafael Furcal and Allen Craig. And Yadi and Pitcher Joe Kelly combined to throw out Carlos Gomez.
There were plenty of other awesome things that happened in this game. Let’s discuss!
* Joe Kelly Finally Got His 2nd Win Of The Season! Mike Matheny noted during his Mike’d Up segment that Kelly was struggling with his main pitch. So he worked with his other pitches and was golden. He pitched 5.2 innings. He gave up 10 hits and three earned runs. He walked 2. But hold on… Kelly struck out 4. And if you don’t know … Joe can hit too! We will get to that… NOW!
* How About That 4th Inning! Allen Craig started out the inning with a single. Matt Holliday flew out. Carlos Beltran doubles, allowing Craig to move to third. Next up? David Freese! He singles to center allowing Craig and Beltran to score. Yadi flies out. While Daniel Descalso is at the plate, Randy Wolf had a wild throw, allowing Freese to move up to second.
Dirty Dan then knocks a double allowing Freese to score.
Next up? Shane Robinson. He walks. Joe Kelly is now at the plate. He singles to left field and allows Dirty to score.
The Cards went up 4-3! And Joe Kelly helps himself!
The Cardinals didn’t let up either. They scored twice in the sixth inning and three times in the eighth. There were no home runs. It was just the Cardinals getting hits, moving people over and scrapping. You know? Cardinal Baseball!
Other Interestings: The Brewers kind of suck now! The visiting team was 2 of 13 with runners in scoring position. And they left 10 on base. Randy Wolf wasn’t as baffling a pitcher to the Cards as he has been in the past. he pitched 5 innings, had five earned runs and struck out two. Remember John Axford? Since that wild man hair style was no longer working for him, he’s fairly … fairly… cleaned-up looking. Meaning? I had to look twice when they said Axford was coming in to pitch!
Tonight’s Game: The Cardinals will have an early start to tonight’s game as they are celebrating the 1982 World Series Championship team. They will have a parade around the stadium at 5 p.m. and fans will get to see some of their favorite players from that championship squad! The Cardinals will have their lovely throw-back, powder blue jerseys on tonight! Yay!
Then, Adam Wainwright takes the mound for the Cards. Mark Rogers, who is 0-0 with an ERA of 3.18, takes the mound for the Brewers. The game starts at 6:15 p.m. at Busch. And it will be on Fox Sports Midwest for the home audience.
Enjoy! Go Cards!

Yadi, fast? I love it!
Yes! I wish you could have heard him say it! He was serious!
Talking to KMOX in the stadium after the game, Yadi told them he’s “fast and smart.” It was cute!
