It was an ugly loss for the Cardinals. They lost to the Mets 6-2, avoiding a sweep.

There were a couple of good things… so let’s discuss that, right now!

* Adam Wainwright. Yeah, he wasn’t totally on his game today. But! He did hit his first home run of the season in the third inning off of R.A. Dickey … Yeah, THAT R.A. Dickey! Otherwise, Adam pitched five innings, giving up five earned runs, eight hits, including a home run to Ike Davis. He walked two and struck out five. Waino has a record of 13-12 with a 4.04 ERA.

* Shelby Miller. Yes. THE prospect made his major league debut today. He pitched two innings, giving up one hit and striking out four hitters. Awesome debut! From what we saw today, it’s as good a time as any to have this young arm on staff to provide some long relief as the final month of the regular season continues. Looking forward to more great things from Shelby!

* Sam Freeman. Sam pitched the ninth inning. He walked one and struck out three. That’s right! Finally, a good outing from Sam! Keep it up!

The Cardinals get a well deserved day on Thursday. Next up for the Cards are Ryan Braun and the Brewers. Kyle Lohse takes the mound for the Cardinals and Yovani Gallardo take the mound for the Brew Crew. Both men look to get their 15th win of the season.
