First, there was this.
Then, finally, at 9:30 p.m., there was baseball between the Brewers and the Cardinals.
At first, it was good. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Jon Jay, Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig did what they do. Kyle Lohse was pitching well. Things were moving along.
It got a little tighter when K-Lo gave up a run in the fourth. Then, in the seventh, Edward Mujica finally allowed an inherited runner to score — first time as a Cardinal to allow any run to score. Tie game.
Mitchell Boggs had some trouble; Brewers scored two in the eighth. But, never fear — Yadi to the rescue with a no-doubt-about it homer to tie it in the bottom of the eighth!
From then, it was extra innings and missed opportunities and Lance Lynn giving up a homer to Ryan Braun (UGH) in the top of the 13th and a game that ended at 2:06 a.m. Central Time.
But, today, there’s this.
A new day, sunshine — and I’ll be at that very ballpark for the first time since April 14. So today’s a good day.
Game time is 6:15 p.m., with Mike Fiers and Jake Westbrook starting.
