And so it ends.
It was a great run, 2012 Cardinals, all the way to the final game of the National League Championship Series.
But in the end, the comebacks came to an end — just like all good things do — and the Giants prevailed tonight 9-0 to win the National League pennant.
Many reasons why a 3-1 NLCS series lead resulted in these Cardinals becoming the third team to not reach the World Series (joining the 1996 Cardinals and the 2003 Cubs). But we know what they are — cold bats primary among them. And that’s nothing new from the past three games. We saw the same thing in many other games from April through September.
The big picture of the overall season is one to be proud of, or will be once the disappointment goes away.
In the meantime, only one thing left to say.
Go Tigers.

Proud of the yungins who stepped up! Proud of the veterans who held on! Proud of a manager who worked well through mid season injuries to late season injuries! Proud of KyleOKC and his work in the MLBFanCave! Proud of the men and women who type, think, and promote this team! Proud of Cardinal Nation! Proud of a great run! Yeah, PROUD!
I never expected them to get this far–I hurt for the players, but for me, it ws a great run. I still love them, always will. They are My Boys. So many exciting wins–I’ll ignore the agonizing losses.
It was a great run, and a longer run than I expected. There’s no denying this team has heart, a little luck, and some amazingly good pitchers. They got outplayed those last few games, but that’s the nature of the game. Some days you’re more on than others, sometimes the luck falls more to the other team, and sometimes the bats are just icy cold. I think all the other teams should be worried next season, after all this was Matheny’s rookie year of managing, imagine what could happen next year. Joe Kelly and Trevor Rosenthal are going to be fun to watch next year, too. Watch out world!
My heart is broken. I’m quite honestly at a loss as to what to do with myself now that baseball is over. I cannot wait until pitchers & catchers report!
Oh. And, go Tigers!
