For Your St. Patrick’s Day: A Cardinals Blessing

St. Patrick’s Day is all about traditions — and here’s ours, the annual publishing of the Cardinals Irish blessing by Michael Foutch for the holiday.

capMay the outfield fence rise to meet you

As the horsehide soars off your bat

May the sun gleam off your red helmet

Cheers of a walk off victory

As you look toward the heavens

May The Man hold you in the palm of his hand.

Yes, it’s the day for green jerseys to go along with those gleaming red helmets — and yet another marketing opportunity for MLB since of course all that green Cardinals merchandise is available and conveniently on sale today. (A tank top that says “shake your shamrocks” — really? And it relates to the Cardinals how?)

Today’s game against the Marlins is on Fox Sports Midwest and MLB Network starting at 12:05 p.m. Central, as well as on KMOX Radio. It would be appropriate for Joe Kelly to start on such a day, yet it’s Lance Lynn who’ll be taking the mound today. And it’s an interesting lineup who’ll be joining him today — a young one, with Patrick Wisdom (one of last year’s draft picks) starting at third base since David Freese is still dealing with a sore back and Kolten Wong at second among those out there. But it is terrific that the only Patrick on the Cards roster gets to play today. Derrick Goold has the complete lineup and more here.

If you want to keep up with Yadier Molina and Carlos Beltran in the World Baseball Classic finals (and you have MLB Network), Puerto Rico takes on Japan tonight at 8 p.m. Central Time. Find more on that here.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Slainte!
