Today Is Another Day, Cardinal Fans

Jake Westbrook has a big game to pitch tonight. BIG.

So the loss last night? That was horrible.

Houston got a safety squeeze bunt. Octavio Dotel tried to glove it to Yadier Molina, but couldn’t quite get his glove on it. And that’s that.

Not really. That is also the Cardinals not scoring runs when they needed to. Bad base running. Big-time players pressing to get big-time hits. It’s unacceptable to see happen. But this is the way the 2011 Cardinals have played all season. There’s nothing different going on other than some different faces playing the same game. And occasionally, they play a lot better than other times. But, that is baseball.

Ok! No more dwelling! Lets all get our collective groan out of the way … I’ll wait.

Does that feel better Cardinal fans? Fresh air. Fresh perspective.

The Cardinals are one game back of the Braves in the Wild Card after they lost to the Phillies Monday night. One game back with two games left in the regular season. It’s critical, do-or-die, must-win, put-your-game-face-on time. It’s time to take one game at a time and WIN IT.

For those will be scoreboard watching, the Phillies and Braves kick off at 6:10 Central Time at Turner Field. Roy Oswalt has the ball for the Phillies while Derek Lowe has the ball for the Braves. Neither pitcher has exactly what you’d call a good record.

The Cardinals Astros game  at 7:05 p.m. Central Time … it’s big. This is a BIG game. THE big game. It needs to be won. Henry Sosa will be on the mound for the Astros. That’s right … WHO? No Ifs, Ands or Buts about it. It’s crucial that Jake Westbrook pitch the best game of his life. Probably needs to bring his A-Game at the plate and help himself out with another homer. It’s imperative that the Big-3 do their thing and then some. Yadi must be Yadi. David Freese? Ryan Theriot or Skip Schumaker? The whole team? It’s Go Time Boys. You know what you have to do.

Win. Now.

  1. I am looking at my playoff ticket on my fridge & thinking: I want to use you. Maybe the Cards got their travel weary bodies rested & nerves calmed so they can play better than the Astros tonight. I like that Jon Jay got two hits last night. Check list: 1. Don’t hit or run into a DP( already broke that record). 2. Don’t get caught stealing. 3. Don’t run into an out at the plate. 4. Don’t swing at those balls out of the strike zone.(like bouncers) 5. Keep your eye on the ball until you catch it. Two hand catches wouldn’t hurt. 6. slow Westbrook down so he doesn’t wear out in 4th inning. 7. QUIT showing all the past homeruns and great Plays from years ago against the Astros- can you say jinks. 8 For one game can the players finish the game?
