That’s all that remains of the 2011 World Series, all that’s left of the 2011 baseball season. What a season, and what a Series, it has definitely been.
Game sevens are always amazing. Though I’m not really a hockey or basketball fan, I always watch a game seven in the Stanley Cup Finals or NBA Finals. You have to. They are the ultimate do-or-die situation.
And now, for the first time since 2002, we have a game seven of the World Series. A game seven with our team, our amazing 2011 Cardinals, against the Rangers. Winner take all — literally.
The giddy high of last night’s almost indescribable win is starting to fade as I look at the clock and realize that there are just over four hours now until Chris Carpenter takes the mound at what’s sure to be an absolutely rocking Busch Stadium. That nervous tension that I’ve felt almost daily for the past month is starting to creep back in.
But what more could we ask for? And who more could we want out there pitching?
Just in case we need a reminder of where we’ve been, we have this from Bernie Miklasz:
The Cardinals trailed the Braves in the wild card race by 10 1/2 games with 32 to left on the schedule.
They trailed the Braves by three games with five to play.
They trailed the Phillies 1-0 and 2-1 in the NLDS.
They trailed the Brewers 1-0 in the NLCS.
They trailed the Rangers 3-2 in the World Series.
They trailed the Rangers five times in Game 6.
And they survived. All of it. They survived all of these close calls, the pending doom.
And here they are, in Game 7. This team’s resolve is unbelievable. I don’t see how they lose now. Can it happen? Sure. Take nothing for granted, especially a proud Rangers team.
But something is happening here, something magical and mystical. Your 2011 Cardinals will not be denied.
What a ride this has been — what an unbelievable experience from Aug. 25 to this, the final game.
Ten postseason wins down. One more win for No. 11 in ’11. Will it become a reality?
We’ll soon find out.
You forgot my favorite cliche!
THIS IS CRUCIAL!! Lol!!
Don’t know if anything could top last night, but I’m ready for them to try! I’m ready!
