Yes, of course, Feb. 2 is Groundhog Day. Even more importantly, though, it’s also the birthday of St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst, who today turns 90.
To honor Red on his special day, here’s a link to what I wrote last year about him and his long history both as a player and as a manager. Chris Jaffe at The Hardball Times passed along this link to a post he has on Red today, which includes a terrific line that really sums up Red: “He’s become the eternal Cardinal.”
And here’s a look at Red through the years.
Here’s a quick overview on Red’s career from the Baseball Hall of Fame.
And the best Cardinals commercial ever.
Thank you, Red, for all you’ve done for the Cardinals through your long history with the team. Have a wonderful birthday and a very happy and healthy year ahead!
